Grades and Specifications

Different grades of Ferro Silicon are available depending on the silicon content and the specific requirements of the steel or casting process:

  • FeSi 75: Contains about 75% silicon and is the most commonly used grade.
  • FeSi 45: A more economical grade, containing 45% silicon, often used when high silicon content is not required.
  • FeSi 90: This grade contains around 90% silicon and is used for specialized applications where high silicon content is necessary.

Ferro Silicon (FeSi) is an alloy composed primarily of iron and silicon, typically containing 15% to 90% silicon by weight. It plays a critical role in the steelmaking and casting industries due to its deoxidizing and alloying properties, contributing to both the strength and quality of steel products.

Product Characteristics

Ferro Silicon is produced in electric arc furnaces by reducing quartz (silica, SiO₂) with coke in the presence of scrap iron or millscale. The primary reaction is the reduction of silica by carbon, producing silicon, which then dissolves into molten iron. This process takes place at high temperatures, typically around 1500-2000°C. The ratio of silicon to iron can be controlled to produce different grades of Ferro Silicon, with common grades containing 15%, 45%, 75%, or 90% silicon content​
